Happy New Year from Scotland

Our Christmas Holidays are now over and we all return to school tomorrow for the new year 2014. We  shared many of the customs of our partner school during the Christmas celebrations in our school in December.  Our Christmas Service was all about our European partners.  The parents and neighbours who came to our Service all loved it.

There are many traditions in Scotland at the New Year.
People visit their neighbours at midnight to wish them a Happy New Year - this is
called first footing as you are the first foot over the door in the New Year, traditionally you would take your neighbour a piece of coal for their fire to symbolise wishing them a warm house for the year.  You should always have a coin in your pocket at midnight to symbolise never going poor throughout the year. And of course everybody sings Auld Lang Syne to celebrate good times.  Tomorrow at school everyone will wish each other a Happy New Year and we all wish you a Happy New Year from Scotland.
